Our Story

Where it All Started.

I first began baking in 2020 during the lockdown. In such a truly horrible time for all, I found joy in baking cookies, cupcakes, and other sweet treats! During the summer that year, I went along with this love through doing a concept similar to Community Cookies called "Justice Treats" where I made cupcakes, cookies, and all sorts of treats to sell to my neighbors/community and raise awareness for certain events occurring at the time like the hunger crisis in Yemen or police brutality. Because I was just starting off as a freshman, I temporarily took a break off of this business to explore other interests. In this pursuit, I felt empowered by the concept of social justice and began to get involved in initiatives that worked to address inequities within society and particularly education!

Growing up in a space where my identity was not the norm, I have always felt different. Whether it was ignorant comments from my peers or even self-doubt the classroom and other spaces in my community never truly felt like safe environments. In this struggle, I decided to revisit the idea of Justice Treats during my junior year. But this time it would be from a different perspective.

Through developing Community Cookies since 2022, I have the opportunity of spreading the joy of my sweet treats while working to directly address the inequities me and several other people in CT experience. I hope to show others that making an impact can practically begin anywhere. Community Cookies gifts me with the outlet of creating an impact to ensure that future marginalized students, children, and simply people just like, have various opportunities and environments to freely express who they truly are!
